MANGALORE: The New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) celebrated the Independence Day by honouring marine staff and fire service personnel of the port.

The NMPT Chairman, Mr P. Tamil Vanan, who hoisted the National Flag, presented cash awards to marine staff of NMPT for rendering exemplary service in the re-floating operation of M.V. Tipu Sultan at Kadamat Island on April 3. A port press release said here on Monday that the fire service personnel of the port, who rescued four crewmembers of oil tankers on two different operations, were also honoured.
