Rise in SCR earnings

HYDERABAD: The South Central railway (SCR) has registered a total earning of Rs 1190.09 crore during the fiscal 2004-05, up 23.8 per cent from the previous year's earning of Rs 961.92 crore.

Addressing a gathering on the occasion of the 59th Independence Day celebrations, the General Manager, Mr D.N. Mathur, said the zone had also achieved a significant growth in originating freight loading which touched 13.72 million tonnes (mt) compared with 11.42 mt for the same period last year, a growth of 20 per cent.

He said the thrust of the SCR would be on improving passenger amenities further. A sizable amount of money would be spent on this during the current fiscal.

Mr Mathur commended Bhikya Suryam, Track Patrolman; Mr S.K. Sinha, Driver, and Mr M. Mohan Rao, Asst. Driver, for their alertness in averting a major mishap to the Godavari Express recently.
