Hyderabad , Aug 15

FOCUSSING on welfare measures for poor and weaker sections, the State Government plans to ensure that the schemes reach the targeted people.

In his address at the 59th Independence Day here today, the State Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajashekhara Reddy, said that the State plans to launch a gas grid shortly under public private partnership initiative.

A petrochemical complex and ten mini hydel projects would come up, which would be developed and maintained by Girijans.

Referring to various schemes the Congress Government initiated during his tenure, Dr Reddy said that his government was committed to distributing land to the poor.

The second phase of the land distribution project would be inaugurated by the Prime Minister later this week. This round would cover more than one lakh acres.

While highlighting the impact that some of the welfare measures had brought about on the people, Dr Reddy said effort is on to ensure that the targeted sections actually benefited through them.

He promised that each weaker section family would be provided with a house, toilet and tap connection in urban areas.

The State is racing ahead towards the objective of Haritandhra Pradesh and this would be accelerated by good monsoon this year.

It would also provide much needed support to the farm sector.

On the Naxalite issue, Dr Reddy said that peace would ensure that various schemes reach out to even the farthest rural area in the State.

Though the Government had made a sincere effort to initiate talks with the Naxalites, second time around, the ultras had announced unilateral withdrawal.
