BIM students win international awards

Chennai , Aug. 15

A STUDENT team from the Bharathidasan Institute of Management (BIM) has won awards in two international business plan competitions.

The BIM team won the first place in the Microsoft IT Business Plan category in the Imagine Cup 2005 held in Yokohoma, Japan. The award carries a cash prize of $8,000.

Earlier in February this year, the team had won the Global Social Entrepreneurship Competition conducted by the University of Washington in Seattle and a cash prize of $5,000.

Speaking at newspersons, Prof M. Sankaran, Director of BIM, said that a good business school should not merely focus on developing excellent managers or successful leaders but should mould them into responsible citizens.

Ms Pamela Ramalingam, Global Head of Engineering and Quality (Group Tech Ops), Standard Chartered Bank and President of BIM Alumni Association, said that academic brilliance alone was not enough in today's business environment.

The team, called ProGreen, consisted of Mr Santosh Ramdoss as CEO, Mr Deepak Kumar as CFO, Mr Anand Venkataraman as Head of Operations and Ms Anita Parthasarathy as Chief Training Officer.

The IT business plan which the team came up with was to grow a number of rural micro co-operatives and provide data entry and conversion services to the large BPO companies, Mr Ramdoss said.
