SSI KVIC targeting Rs 11,000-cr turnover Our Bureau
Coimbatore , Aug. 15 AT the third meet of khadi artisans on `Khadi Karigar Janashree Bima Yojana', the Executive Director of the Life Insurance Corporation of India, Mr R. Venugopal, assured the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) that the corporation would re-examine the premium rate on the KKJBY policy at the next review meeting in August 2006. This social security cover KKJBY introduced in August 15, 2003, has evoked good response, though not in Tamil Nadu. The Deputy CEO at the Office of the Commissioner for Khadi and Village Industries, Mr J.L. Chaudhari, called upon district-level officers, LIC officials and leading local khadi institutions to create awareness camps. Addressing khadi artisans at the Ramakrishna Kalyana Mandapam in the city, he said, "all the districts should be covered by December 2005." Reverting to the Tamil Nadu scenario, he said, "the number of claims settled here exceeds the coverage. The State ranks first in claim settlement," he added. Mr Chaudhari later told presspersons that KVIC was targeting a turnover of Rs 11,000 crore during the current year. To a query on exports, he said the commission proposes to form a group to coordinate all export activities. "There is enormous potential for export of handloom paper and products, spices, honey and fruit products. We are looking at exporting this stuff to the US, European countries and West Asia, " he said.
