One among the oldest modes of transport, hand-pulled rickshaws will no more ply on the roads in Kolkata.

The Chief Minister, Mr Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, has announced the decision of banning the rickshaws after hoisting the tri-colour on Independence Day in front of Writers Building on Monday. Auto-rickshaws and modern cycle rickshaws will replace the over 10,000 hand-pulled rickshaws.
