Letters Crop insurance
The report "Now, insurance for farmers against excess rain" (Business Line, August 14) is a reflection of the failure of the Agricultural Insurance Company of India (AIC) to provide the required protection and compensation to farmers against loss. Insurance is for protection against loss, whether drought or rain. If it had been successfully implemented, farmer suicide deaths could have been avoided. The AIC, the system, schemes and application need to be revamped. A. Jacob Sahayam Thiruvananthapuram
