Expert panel to study roadmap for EET method of taxation

THE Government has set up a Committee of Experts to work out a roadmap for moving towards an Exempt Exempt Taxable (EET) method of taxation of savings instruments. The committee is likely to submit its report by October 31, 2005.

This was stated the Minister of State for Finance, Mr S.S. Palanimanickam, in a reply to a question raised by Ms Maya Singh in the Rajya Sabha today.

The Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, in his Budget Speech, 2005-06 has announced the decision of the Government to adopt an EET method of taxation of savings in accordance with the best international practice.
