Airlines Austrian Airlines to start Mumbai-Vienna flights from September 1 Our Bureau
Mumbai , Aug. 17 AUSTRIAN Airlines, which operates a daily service between Vienna and New Delhi, is set to launch Mumbai-Vienna services from September 1. The airline announced an inaugural return fare of Rs 19,900 on the Mumbai-Vienna sector. Business class customers can avail themselves of a companion-free offer till the year-end. According to Mr Bernhard Baeck, Country Manager, India, students travelling abroad can also use a promotional Rs 15,000 fare for travel to Europe and Rs 19,000 for travel to the US. Further, students travelling to Europe would be allowed free excess baggage up to 10 kg, while those flying to the US could carry an extra check-in baggage, he said. On the Mumbai-Vienna sector, the airline will operate a Boeing 767 in a two-class configuration with 36 business and 209 economy class seats. It currently operates an Airbus 330 on the Vienna-New Delhi sector with 24 business and 235 economy class seats. On the delay in the launch of the Mumbai-Vienna service, which was originally scheduled for May, Mr Baeck said the airline had to postpone the service on account of crew and aircraft rotation. The airline had bilateral rights to operate a daily service and it hoped to step up the frequency in due course. He said the airline would target the corporate traveller as well as tourists, and it would promote Austria as a tourist destination. It would also market the country as a gateway to destinations in Europe and the US. The airline reported record loads of 80.9 per cent during July. The airline has imposed fuel surcharge of $45 on long-haul sectors and $17 on short-haul sectors to partially offset spiralling fuel costs. The Austrian Airlines Group comprises of Austrian Airlines, Austrian Arrows and Lauda Air. The group operates more than 2,300 flights a week in and out of Vienna airport.
