AP: 12% growth in VAT collection

Our Bureau

Hyderabad , Aug. 17

THE State recorded an encouraging growth of 12 per cent in value added tax (VAT) collections in July compared to a low growth rate of 6.2 per cent in the previous months.

So far, VAT collections in State stood at Rs 3,413 crore against an annual target of Rs 13,156 crore. While most of the States recorded high growth rates after the implementation of VAT, Andhra Pradesh registered a very low growth rate.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Mr K. Ramakrishna, Minister for Commercial Taxes, said the implementation of VAT in the State was smooth and trouble-free.

He said the Government would take action against the restaurants that fail to pass on the VAT benefits to the consumers. The tax on snack items and coffee was reduced to one per cent from eight per cent. The benefit of seven percentage points was not being passed on to the consumers.
