`Increase rural banks operations'

Our Bureau

HYDERABAD: The State Minister for Finance and health, Mr K. Rosaiah, has asked banks to increase their operations in rural areas and protect the financial interests of the rural poor. This will shield them from bogus chit fund organisations.

Inaugurating the new premises of the State Bank of Hyderabad in the Secretariat, the Minister said the State Government would extend full support to the farming community through the agricultural department in the ensuing season, as the rainfall was good.

Mr Rosaiah suggested that the rural poor should come forward to use the banking services, even though the rates of interests were low. Several Bank officials, including the Chief General Manger, Mr P. Divakara Rao, participated in the function.
