Employment IFMR Director to talk on job prospects in financial sector Our Bureau
Chennai , Aug. 17 THE Institute for Financial Management & Research (IFMR) Director, Mr R. Kannan, will deliver the BL Club lecture on `Job opportunities in the financial sector' at the Meenakshi College for Women here on Thursday. His talk will focus on opportunities in commercial banking, investment banking, commodity trading, asset management and insurance. Commercial banking, says a release from his office, has changed considerably over the last few years, and is now being driven by technology, competition and innovation. Corporate finance, treasury, derivate trading and technology finance are other emerging areas. Also, the need for a large number of professionals exists in the areas of creditworthiness analysis, data analysis, demographic pattern, strategy analysis as well as retail loans, which Mr Kannan would elaborate on. Investment banking is also looking up, particularly in risk management, mergers and amalgamations, loan and equity syndication and financial advisory. "The Indian equity market is experiencing one of the best bull periods driven by economic buoyancy, increased corporate profits, high FII inflows, stable government policies, low interest rates and increased business and industry confidence," says the release. With the Government's commitment to prevent exploitation of farmers by the middleman, commodity exchanges are likely to take off in a big way. Mr Kannan will also point out the job opportunities in hedge funds, venture capital funds and private equity funds, as well as the insurance sector.
