Chennai , Aug. 18

PARAMOUNT Airways (P) Ltd is all set to start commercial flights on September 8 with six flights a day. The airline's inaugural function is slated for September 7 in Madurai.

Initially, the airline will operate flights on the Coimbatore-Delhi, Delhi-Kochi-Delhi, Delhi-Coimbatore and Coimbatore-Chennai-Coimbatore sectors with an Embraer 170 aircraft. Over the next 11 months, the airline will get one more Embraer 170 and three Embraer 175 aircraft, according to Mr M. Thiagarajan, Managing Director, Paramount Airways.

He said that the two Embraer aircraft would have 70 seats in an all business class configuration. "It will be a premium service offering three-course gourmet meals with four cabin crew per aircraft to ensure highly personalised service," he said.

The fares would be substantially lower than economy-class fares of comparable airlines, he said without giving details.

Mr Thiagarajan said the seat width and aisle width in the aircraft would be more than in an Airbus 320 or Boeing 737 aircraft. The company would take care of the ground handling at the airports.

The airline hoped to carry 250 passengers initially on six flights daily, which would go up to 3,000 passengers on 30 flights.

Tickets for flights can be booked on either the airline's Web site or through its call centres or travel agents. Paramount Airways will also set up kiosks at shopping malls and major office complexes where passengers can swipe their credit card and book tickets.
