Centre's move for agro industry hailed

Our Correspondent

Madurai , Aug. 19

THE Madurai District Tiny And Small Scale Industries Association (Maditssia) has welcomed the move by the Union Government move to set up an export market development fund and a dedicated financial institution, an agri-business processing and development bank of India to support agro-based food processing industry in the country.

A separate bank and separate legislation and financial and credit delivery system will be a boon to the agro-based food processing industry to tap the growing global and domestic market, it said.

In a statement here, the Maditssia President, Mr S. Aravind, while thanking the Secretary, Ministry of Food Processing, Government of India, Mr S.P. Singh for the move, said the draft of a model contract bill circulated to the State Government is a welcome move to bring the farmer and the processor closer.

The long pending demand of the industry is approval by the Cabinet in the form of draft for unified legislation for the food processing industry, which will bring under a single head some of the legislations that have an impact on food processing, he added.
