Hyderabad , Aug. 19

A RICE museum has been opened at the Directorate of Rice Research at nearby Rajendranagar.

The museum will provide all information regarding rice culture, science, and recent advances in rice research.

Dr Mangala Rai, Secretary of Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE) and Director-General of Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), inaugurated the facility on Friday.

"The museum offers viewers a panoramic view of rice ecology, an interacting kiosk, story-telling board, and scaled-down machinery used in rice cultivation," the Directorate said in a release.

The facility will meet the information needs of students, farmers, and scientists.

Dr Rai also opened a transgenic greenhouse that would help scientists test genetically modified rice lines showing resistance to major pests and diseases.

The facility conforms to international standards, the release said.
