Rlys' July freight revenue up 12%

INDIAN Railways registered earnings of Rs 2,773.26 crore from 51.37 million tonnes (mt) of freight during July 2005 as compared with Rs 2,471.15 crore from 49.66 mt in the same month last year.

The earnings were up by 12.2 per cent during the period, says an official release.

During the first four months of the current fiscal, Railways have earned Rs 11,338.88 crore of revenue as compared with Rs 9,618.34 crore during the corresponding period of last year.

Of the total earnings registered in July, Rs 1,135.81 crore came from transportation of 22.45 mt of coal, followed by Rs 143.72 crore from 4.19 mt of raw material to steel plants, Rs 132.72 crore came from 1.27 mt.

Finished iron & steel fetched Rs 191.34 crore from 3.50 mt iron ore for exports.

Cement contributed Rs 190.66 crore from 4.02 mt.

Foodgrains earned Rs 258.77 crore from 3.72 mt; , Rs 126.14 crore from 2.51 mt of fertilisers, Rs 251.67 crore from 2.87 mt of petroleum oil and lubricant, and Rs 342.45 crore from 6.84 mt of other goods.
