Hyderabad , Aug. 19

GATEWAY Distriparks Ltd (GDL), a port-based logistics facilitator, has launched operations at its container freight station (CFS), in Visakhapatnam. The first lot of containers was moved on August 13.

GDL has said in a press release that it commenced operations after receiving a notification from the customs department. It has been appointed the custodian of all imported goods received in containers through Visakhapatnam until they are cleared by the customs for domestic consumption.

The company will also take custody of export cargo brought into the CFS for stuffing, customs examination, transportation and delivery. GDL's greenfield project at Visakhapatnam has been set up as a subsidiary of Gateway East India Pvt Ltd, which is a joint venture with Suri Group based in Andhra Pradesh.

This will cater to the container terminal operated by the JM Baxi Group and Dubai Ports International (DPI). The CFS is strategically located 9 km away from the container terminal along the national highway on land taken on a 30-year lease from the Visakhapatnam Port Trust.
