Rolls-Royce launches Rs 3-cr Phantom

New Delhi , Aug. 20

ROLLS-ROYCE Motor Cars plans to come out with a convertible version of the Phantom by 2007 and the version would have simultaneous launch in India along with the global launch.

This was disclosed by the company's sole distributor, Mr Navnit Kachalia, Chairman and Managing Director, Navnit Motors Pvt. Ltd, during the launch of Rolls-Royce's Phantom in the Capital on Saturday.

Rolls-Royce hopes to sell 10 units of its luxury car Phantom in India this year. Priced at Rs 3 crore, the car would be imported, with no indigenisation.

Unveiling the car here today, Mr Collin Kelly, Regional Director, Asia Pacific, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, said, "We hope to sell 10 cars in the current year itself. Even today we find enthusiasm in the country for unparalleled excellence which Rolls-Royce name stands for." The 453-bhp machine would be available in the country exclusively through Navnit Motors.

The company, which sells about 800 cars internationally, has returned to the country after 50 years with debut in Mumbai in April this year, has already sold five units of the car. The Phantom's new features include rear coach doors that hinge at the back. The 6.75-litre V12 engine offers reserves of torque that can propel the car from 0-100 kmph in 5.9 seconds. The maximum torque is 720Nm or 531 lb ft at 3,500 rpm with 75 per cent torque being available from 1,000 rpm.
