Succession Bill

This refers to the welcome news of the Rajya Sabha having amended the Hindu Succession Act to give equal inheritance rights to women with respect to ancestral property.

The first step towards gender equality is to ensure that the women's reservation Bill, the second-longest pending Bill, that provides 33 per cent reservation in the legislature, is passed.

Registration of property deals in the name of women has risen in Delhi following the government's decision to reduce the stamp duty by half, if the property is registered in the name of a woman. This noble idea has given women financial and mental security. The Government should adopt this idea in every field possible.

Providing special concessions is an important step towards empowerment of women.
