Manipal AcuNova opens new drug research centre

MANIPAL AcuNova has launched Manipal AcuNova KH Clinical Research Centre at Manipal in Udupi district for undertaking research on generic drugs, new drug delivery systems and new chemical entities.

Inaugurating the centre on Saturday, Ms Kiran Mazumdar Shaw, Chairperson and Managing Director of Biocon Ltd, said that research would play a major role in knowledge economy. She hoped that the centre would emerge as a world-class research centre.

Mr D.A. Prasanna, Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of Manipal AcuNova, said that with a large reservoir of human resources, centres of academic excellence in biosciences, a vibrant pharmaceutical industry, and fast developing clinical capabilities, India's biotechnology and pharma sectors are poised for exponential growth.

"The launch of the new centre confirms Manipal's dedication towards building biotechnology and clinical research industry," he said.

The clinical research services in the centre include pre-clinical studies, bio-availability, bio-equivalence, pharmacokinetics and data management. He said that the clinical research would be done in oncology, infectious diseases, endocrinology, neurology and dental sciences.
