Textiles park at Tirunelveli

Our Correspondent

MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu Government has proposed to establish an integrated textiles park, fifth in the State, in Tirunelveli.

The district administration has identified 67 acres on the Tirunelveli-Cheranmadevi stretch. The park will house processing, ginning, dyeing and garmenting units. It is expected to create 2, 000 jobs.

Speaking at a meeting recently at Tirunelveli, the State Minister for Industries, Mr Nainar Nagendran, said a minimum of 50 entrepreneurs, who can invest at least Rs 15 crore would be attracted so that the Central assistance of Rs 40 crore for establishing the infrastructure could be obtained. The State Government, for its part, would contribute Rs 5 crore.

Assuring to provide all facilities and extend all support, the Minister further added that the industrialists would be allowed to jointly set up windmills to meet their power needs.

The Secretary, Department of Handlooms, Mr A. Elangovan, suggested at the meeting that the entrepreneurs, to maintain superior quality of the products, could go in for second-hand imported machineries, the sources said.
