Mumbai floods

The two committees — Fact Finding Committee and Concerned Citizens Committee — appointed to investigate and find those responsible for the aftermath of the Mumbai floods should question every corporator and MLA in Mumbai on the steps they have taken to enforce anti-encroachment laws, preserve mangroves, check the spread of shanties in public open spaces, prevent the pollution of the Mithi river, and check unauthorised de-reservations of playgrounds, no-development zones, recreational grounds and gardens.

The committees should then demand that those who have failed in their duties be held accountable.

G. R. Vora
