Power All approvals for Udupi project received, says Nagarjuna Power Our Bureau
Mangalore , Aug. 22 NAGARJUNA Power Corporation Ltd (NPCL) has said that it has got all the statutory approvals from the Union and the State governments for carrying out the work on thermal power project in Udupi district. A press release by Mr K.S. Balachandra, Head (Technical), NPCL, said here on Monday that some people threatened the employees and damaged the office and property of Nagarjuna Power in Udupi district on August 20. The Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) a statutory body created by the Karnataka Government under KIAD Act 1966 has acquired the land and buildings for setting up the 1,015-MW power plant, he said. In support of its claims, the company issued a photocopy of the letter written by the KIADB to the Udupi Superintendent of Police, in which the latter was urged to prevent the local village panchayat from damaging the structure belonging to the board. The letter by the KAIDB Chief Executive Officer, Mr B.A. Harish Gowda, said the board, as per the decision of the Karnataka Government, has acquired some land at Yellur and other villages of Udupi district for setting up a power plant. However, the Yellur village panchayat initiated action for demolishing a particular structure, on the grounds that the building plans have not been approved by it. The letter said the KIADB has acquired that particular structure along with other land for the project. The question of approval of building plan by the village panchayat does not arise. "It is not known under what provision of the law, the village panchayat is taking up for demolition of the structure acquired by the KIADB, another statutory body constituted under KIAD Act 1966," Mr Gowda said.
