New Delhi , Aug 22

THE Government today introduced in Parliament the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (Amendment) Bill, 2005, which seeks not only to make the tenure of Chairman and members subject to the pleasure of the Central Government, but also limits it to a continuous period of five years.

The Bill was introduced in the Lok Sabha by the Minister for Small Scale Industries and Agro and Rural Industries, Mr Mahabir Prasad.

The Bill also seeks to include two more part-time members in the Commission and confers voting rights on the ex-officio members of the Commission. The Bill also provides requirement of 10 years of experience in appropriate fields for appointment as a member of the Commission.

It also seeks to make specific provisions for clearer demarcation of functions and powers among the Commission, the Chief Executive Officer and Financial Advisor of the Commission.
