Thiruvananthapuram , Aug .23

EMINENT scientist Dr C.N.R. Rao will formally launch the scientific portal on computational chemistry being set up by the Indian Institute for Information Technology and Management-Kerala (IIITM-K) on Tuesday next.

The Kerala Chief Minister, Mr Oommen Chandy, will also attend the launch function being arranged as part of the convocation ceremony at the institute, a spokesperson of the IIITM-K said here.

This marks the culmination of a successful campaign touched off with a workshop organised by the institute earlier in March this year for introducing computational chemistry to teachers and research scholars pursuing the subject of chemistry. Over 48 participants had attended the workshop, which was co-sponsored by the IIT-Chennai.

Among those who spearheaded the workshop were Prof M.S. Gopinathan and Prof Mangala Sundar Krishnan of IIT-Chennai and Dr C. Venkatesh and Prof K.R. Srivathsan of IIITM-K. The team of engineers from the Education Grid of the IIITM-K and researchers from IIT-Chennai conducted the practical part of the course.
