New HP printer for home, small businesses

R. Savitha

Singapore , Aug. 23

HP, known for its home computing, imaging and printing technology, is now bringing to the home and business printing landscape an ink-based printing platform - the scaleable printing technology.

This will hit the domestic market by October.

Mr Chris Morgan, Senior Vice-President, Imaging and Printing Group, HP Asia Pacific and Japan, at a regional event on Tuesday, said the technology would deliver speed and superior print quality.

It would also reduce overall costs per page for small and medium-sized businesses which have high volume printing to do.

Mr Morgan, launching the first printers built on the scalable printing technology, said this was a result of a five-year $1.4-billion strategic investment.

The new products based on this technology include the fastest home printing devices that can print a four by six inch photographs in a matter of 14 seconds compared to the 60 seconds taken by its competitors.

The printers launched are the HP Photosmart 8230 photo printer and Photosmart 3000 all in one series which are designed for consumers who are into high volume business.

The printers feature six ink cartridges with new HP Vivera ink formulations and a separate pin-head.

The HP Officejet Pro K550 colour printer series is a single function printer that can deliver superior colour and laser-like quality text at twice the print speed of the other competitive colour laser printers, he said.

This printer series would also help small and medium sized businesses to lower the costs by 30 per cent cost per page than colour laser printers.

Mr Morgan said that as the new platform was scalable, it would be able to address the diverse needs of the printing market which include the high volume consumers, as also the small to medium sized business and the online and offline kiosks.
