Foreign Relations Logistics - Airlines India, Singapore agree to increase flights Our Bureau
New Delhi , Aug. 24 INDIA and Singapore have agreed to allow more flights between the two nations. The agreement, that was reached at the conclusion of an air services agreement between India and Singapore here, gives the airlines from Singapore permission to operate up to seven flights a week with a Boeing 777 variety of aircraft to Bangalore. Besides, the airlines from the island State have also been given permission to operate a daily flight to Hyderabad and Kolkata with an Airbus A-320 variety of aircraft. If the airlines, however, decide to utilise a bigger aircraft to either Hyderabad or Kolkata the number of flights that they can operate will decrease, sources said. At present Singapore Airlines operates 41 times a week to India including flying three times a week to Bangalore and four times a week to Kolkata while its subsidiary Silk Air operates four weekly flights to Hyderabad. Besides, Jet Star, a low-cost airline from Singapore recently started operating to Kolkata. The agreement also allows the airlines from India to operate up to 14 more weekly flights to Singapore.
