New Delhi , Aug. 24

THE national broadcaster continues to play an important role in a developing society, said Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting (I&B), Mr S. Jaipal Reddy.

Speaking at the inauguration of New Broadcasting House and Doordarshan Bhawan - Tower B on Tuesday, Mr Reddy said that public broadcasters continue to be relevant in a developing society like India. Referring to concerns expressed by Prasar Bharati employees in the wake of autonomy to the organisation, the Minister assured that their status and service conditions would not be compromised in any way.

He called upon the employees to work with commitment and with a sense of mission to produce quality programmes. Prasar Bharati has grown a lot and we need to consolidate now, he added.
