Chennai , Aug. 24

TATA Consultancy Services (TCS) on Wednesdaylaunched a dedicated insurance solutions centre (ISC) in Chennai to provide end-to-end insurance solutions to global customers.

The company has invested Rs 14 crore in the centre, which will provide niche solutions to address clients' business and technology needs at strategic and operational levels, according to Mr Ravi Viswanathan, Vice-President, Chennai Operations, TCS.

The launching of ISC is part of the company's focus on industry verticals. In Chennai, TCS has other solution centres in verticals such as telecom, retail, infrastructure and travel and hospitality. Similarly, in Bangalore TCS has a dedicated centre for banking, he told newspersons.

"Such focussed solution centres will accelerate growth for TCS, and over a period of time these centres will become separate business units," he said.

The insurance centre will have around 2,000 employees and is equipped with infrastructure and facilities, including insurance demo labs, certification test centres and domain training centres. Operating in a 37,500 sq ft area, the centre will host 200 projects for the top 15 insurance customers. TCS' insurance practice contributes 12.5 per cent of the company's revenue, which was Rs 9,272 crore for 2004-05. It currently works with over 70 insurers and reinsurers globally and has around 4,000 associates as part of the insurance practice, he said.

Mr K. Padmanabhan, Vice-President and Head of Insurance Practice, TCS, said by showcasing the centre, TCS got six clients in the last six months in the insurance sector.
