New Delhi , Aug. 24 PANASONIC today announced its entry into the laptop computer market in India with the launch of six models. Positioned as the toughest notebook computer in the market, the company has priced the semi-rugged models upwards of Rs 1.7 lakh and the rugged laptops, upwards of Rs 2.5 lakh. Panasonic would launch the notebooks under the brand name, ToughBook, initially in Mumbai and Delhi. "We are targeting defence, oil exploration companies, ports, utility companies and other segments that need to use notebooks outdoors," said Mr Shashi Bhushan, Business Head of Office Automation and IT, Panasonic Systems Asia Pacific (India). The company expected to sell 5,000 units in the next six months and was talking to potential buyers. "ToughBooks are made as per US military wartime specifications ," said Mr Chishima Susumu, Director, Panasonic Systems Asia Pacific (India).
