Sugar Maharashtra mills get 10 days more to sell free sale sugar Dhimant Bhatt
Mumbai, Aug 26 THE Union Government has granted 10 days' extension to sugar mills of Maharashtra and those located in Belgaum district of Karnataka for sale of their respective free sale quota (FSQ) allotted for the current month, trade sources said. The extension has been granted to those mills that could not lift their allotted FSQ for the current month, due to heavy rains and flood situation in the State. "Sugar factories in the State had requested the Centre for 10 days' extension last week so that they could sell their allotted quota," a factory owner said. The Government announced 34 lakh tonnes of FSQ for the current quarter, July-September, 2005, of which it released 11 lakh tonnes for July and 12 lakh tonnes (including additional quota of one lakh tonne) for the current month."It is difficult to say how much quota has not been lifted," a trader said. Maharashtra has been allocated a higher quota of 2,55,199 tonnes for the current month from 2,31,939 tonnes allocated last month.
