Chennai , Aug. 26

ABOUT 60 corporate Superbrands have been listed in the first edition of Business Superbrands, which will be launched on September 8 in Mumbai.

Business Superbrands follows the successful launch of the coffee table glossy Superbrands of India, which listed 101 top consumer brands in 2004.

Mr Anmol Dar, Managing Director, Superbrands India Pvt Ltd, said that the 60 Business Superbrands have been identified from about 1,000 top corporate brands in India.

Some of the Business Superbrands gained entry into this coffee table publication are GAIL, Wockhardt, Bombay Stock Exchange, National Stock Exchange, Microsoft, Citigroup, Honeywell, Voltas, Kirloskar Cummins, ONGC, BPCL, Reliance Infocomm, Castrol, Bharti Tele-Ventures, Tata Steel, CNBC, AC Nielsen and LIC.

Brands could participate in various categories and verticals such as auto ancillary, automobile, biotechnology (no participants), financial consulting, business outsourcing (no participants), cement, chemicals, drugs and pharmaceuticals, he said.

Mr Dar said that they have been telling participating companies that Superbrands is not a sales tool, as yet.

"In course of time, Superbrands will become a potent sales tool, which hopefully will help impact the bottom line," he said.

The big difference in selecting the Business Superbrands lies in the council, which is drawn from leaders of business and industry, Mr Dar said. The Council consists of Mr Mukesh D. Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director, Reliance Industries; Mr Gurcharan Das, former CEO, Procter & Gamble; Mr R. Gopalakrishnan, Executive Director, Tata Sons; Ms Naina Kidwai, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, HSBC; Mr K.N.Memani, former Chairman Ernst & Young; Mr Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chairman & Group Managing Director, Bharti Enterprises; Mr Nandan Nilekani, CEO, President, Managing Director, Infosys Technologies; Mr Deepak Parekh, Chairman HDFC; Mr M.S.Ramachandran, former Chairman, Indian Oil Corporation; and Mr Subir Raha, Chairman & Managing Director, ONGC. Mr Dar is the Chairman of the Council.

Mr Dar said that the second edition of Consumer Superbrands would be launched in mid 2006.

The company also plans to bring out a Luxury Superbrands (a rapidly developing market in India) edition soon.
