Oilseeds & Edible Oil Castormeal exports to Taiwan, S. Korea to double Our Bureau
Mumbai , Aug 27 EXPORT of castormeal to Taiwan and South Korea is likely to double this year and may touch 1.50 lakh tonnes from the current 75,000 tonnes per annum, Mr B.V. Mehta, Executive Director of the Solvent Extractors' Association of India (SEAI), has said. Taiwan and Korea are large importers of castor meal. SEAI had deputed a 14-member delegation to Taipei (Taiwan), Seoul (S. Korea), Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam) and Bangkok (Thailand) during August 14-23, to promote oilmeal export and study vegetable oil complex. As per the report, Far-East and South-East Asian countries are large producers of compound feed and India could maintain its share in these markets with consistent supply of quality feed ingredients at a competitive price, Mr Mehta said. He said India recently introduced sunflower meal as feed ingredient for poultry in Thailand and shipped about 10,000 tonnes. The delegation had received a favourable response from Thai feed millers. He also said the delegation could successfully convince Korean feed millers that they could use a larger percentage of Indian rapeseed meal in their compound feed formulation to avail cost benefit. The Vietnam feed industry is growing at an average of 10-12 per cent per annum.
