Cable cut repaired, says FLAG

Our Bureau

Mumbai , Aug. 27

THE FLAG Europe Asia cable that suffered a cut a few weeks ago is now operational.

The cable returned to service last Wednesday, said a news release from FLAG, a company now in the Anil Ambani fold of the Reliance group.

"We are now in the process of returning customer traffic from our restoration routes onto the cable and this is expected to be completed within the next one or two days," said the statement.

The FLAG Marine and Technical sub-sea specialist groups worked closely with their repair contractor, E-Marine, and the Indian Government to secure the necessary permits and complete a complicated repair, it said. Customer and traffic were routed onto pre-planned and ad hoc restoration routes while repairs were being done.

The cable cut happened some 31 km off the coast of Mumbai. The FLAG Europe Asia cable had now been re-routed around this sub-sea hazard, said the release.
