Politics Municipal polls in AP on Sept 24 Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Aug. 29 ELECTIONS will be held for 96 municipalities and 11 municipal corporations in Andhra Pradesh on September 24. The model code of conduct would come into force immediately. Announcing the poll schedule here on Monday, Mr A.V.S. Reddy, State Election Commissioner, said the election notice would be publicised on September 1. Nominations would be received up to September 5. After scrutiny the following day, the commission would allow withdrawal of candidature till September 9. The final list of contesting candidates will be finalised the same day, he said. There were about 48 lakh voters in municipalities and 28 lakh voters in municipal corporations. Counting would be held on September 26. Results would be announced the same day. The commission would notice to elected members the same day for indirect election of mayors, deputy mayors and chairpersons and vice-chairpersons. Election would be held for these posts on September 30. Polls to corporations of Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam and Rajahmundry would be held later.
