AP modifies VAT list

IN the first major modification after the implementation of VAT, the Andhra Pradesh Government has issued an order, granting exemption on some items, while clarifying on certain others in the 12.5 per cent category.

Hand-operated sprayers, dusters, maps, charts, globes, atlases and rakhi were exempt from VAT. The order came into effect from August 18.

In a press release, the Commercial Taxes Department said electric motors and oil engines up to a capacity of 10 HP (and starters) come in the four per cent category.

The rate on tractor tyres and tubes, tractor-trailers, feed supplements was brought down from 12.5 per cent to four per cent.

Student community too got concessions. Ink, charts, geometry boxes, colour boxes, pencil sharpeners and erasers were brought under the four per cent slab.

The other items kept in the category are: Vermicelli, semiya, bed sheets, pillow covers, towels, blankets, curtains, embroidery, zari articles, hypodermic syringes, needles, surgical cotton, bandages, plasters, kerosene stoves, lamps, cement poles, khandasari sugar, river sand, extra neutral alcohol, rectified spirit and bio-diesel.
