MORE CYBER PUSH: The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, with Oracle Corporation's Senior Vice-President, Application Development, Mr John Wookey, during the inauguration of Oracle-India Development Centre's Hyderabad campus in Cyberabad on Monday. - Mohammed Yousuf

Hyderabad , Aug. 29

ORACLE India on Monday inaugurated the Hyderabad campus and described India as one of the two jewels for the company in the Asia Pacific region.

The domestic market is extremely strategic in Oracle's growth plans since it has become the fourth largest in the region and is set to climb up to third slot after China and Japan, displacing South Korea.

The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, in the presence of the Senior Vice-President, Oracle Corporation, Mr John Wookey, and senior members of the Oracle team, inaugurated the first phase of the campus and said the State Government had stepped up efforts to improve urban infrastructure.

Addressing a press conference, Mr Wookey said the inauguration signifies the importance Oracle assigns to India. The campus will house an India development centre and carry out cutting edge development work across the entire Oracle product family for the global market.

The challenge for a large corporation like Oracle is to ensure that the employees across locations work the same way from a business perspective.

The campus located in a nine-acre site, will have five lakh square feet of built-up space, a multi-level car park, with a potential to host about 3,000 people.

The Managing Director of Oracle India, Mr Krishan Dhawan, said banking and financial services, telecom, which is among the fastest growing markets, healthcare, drug and pharma clinical research would be the key focus areas with e-governance emerging extremely important with multi-lateral funding in government projects.

Mr Wookey said the recent acquisition of i-flex has expanded the scope of offering services in the banking sector. This has presented the company with a terrific opportunity to expand the basket of offerings. As the banking sector seeks to shrug off old legacy systems to replace with modern systems, this will enable Oracle to tap a wider market, he said.

Referring to grid computing, Mr Wookey said it was simple, flexible and easy to adopt and allows users to scale up as they go, by allowing them to use the reserves by optimising costs.
