Reliance Energy to appoint separate CEOs for Delhi arms

Our Bureau

New Delhi , Aug. 30

IN line with the directions of the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC), Reliance Energy is set to appoint separate chief executive officers for its two electricity distribution subsidiaries in the Capital— BSES Yamuna and BSES Rajdhani.

In the wake of severe criticism of the BSES companies for their slipshod performance, the present CEO of both the companies, Mr Rakesh Aggarwal, is being removed from the top job, sources said.

The DERC had earlier recommended that two separate CEOs be appointed by Reliance Energy to spruce up the functioning of both the companies. The Reliance Energy Director, Mr J. P. Chalasani, who headed both companies just after the privatisation process was concluded, has been rushed to Delhi for initiating damage control, the sources said. BSES has been under fire from the Government as well as from citizens' groups for its poor performance in the Capital. The company has also formed a three-member managing committee comprising Mr Chalasani, Mr Lalit Jalan, who was heading the operations in Mumbai, and the outgoing CEO, Mr Aggarwal.

The committee is slated to watch over the Delhi operations of the company, the sources said.

The two CEOs are likely to be appointed shortly for each of the companies. Meanwhile, a meeting of the Delhi Cabinet called on Tuesday to discuss the power problem in the Capital was cancelled.
