BALLARPUR Industries Ltd has reported an 8.38-per cent increase in net profit for the quarter ended June 2005.

The company said it would raise the prices of its uncoated paper by 2 per cent from October.

It registered a net profit of Rs 40.47 crore during the fourth quarter, against Rs 37.34 crore in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal. The net profit for the year ended June 2005 stood at Rs 168.90 crore, compared to Rs 133.91 crore for the year ended June 30, 2004.

Sales during the fourth quarter rose 1.5 per cent to Rs 525 crore (Rs 516.96 crore).

The company has declared a final dividend of 25 per cent (including the interim dividend of 12.5 per cent paid in February 2005) on the equity shares of the company for the financial year 2004-05 at a total pay-out of Rs 46.11 crore.

"Despite a turbine failure in one of our plants due to floods, there has been a marginal increase in topline growth," the BILT Vice-Chairman and Managing Director, Mr Gautam Thapar, said.

On the issue of the hike in the price of its uncoated papers by 2 per cent from October, the BILT Joint Managing Director, Mr R.R. Vederah, said, "The price hike is mainly due to firm demand in the market and the trade has no stock in the pipeline." There will be a gross increase of about Rs 750 per tonne of uncoated papers, which at present is priced around Rs 34,000 to Rs 35,000 per tonne, he added.

Mr Vederah said the company was monitoring the price of the coated paper but has no plans in the immediate future to revise the price. BILT, which is currently executing a Rs 1,300-crore expansion, is expecting its total installed capacity to touch 8 lakh tonnes by 2007. The company's current capacity is about 4 lakh tonnes.

The company is also looking at the possibility of tying up raw material supply from overseas and is looking at Vietnam from a long-term perspective. "We have had an exploratory visit to Vietnam, and in the long term it is an interesting country to look for our raw material supply," Mr Thapar said.
