GOA would go in for product specific special economic zones (SEZs) such as pharma, jewellery and biotech parks, the Minister for Industries, Mr Luizinho Faleiro, said in the State Assembly on Tuesday.
Replying to Opposition queries during question hour, he said the government was finalising an action plan for setting up the SEZs.
Mr Faleiro said that since a great deal of land was required for a general purpose SEZ, the government would not consider it at the moment.
"We require minimum 1,000 hectares for a general SEZ. So we decided not to go in for it now. We have had presentations from various parties and are also scouting for land," he said, adding that the government was seriously considering a pharma and bio-tech park.
He also announced that the new government's plans for speedy industrialisation had got good response. The State High Power Committee on Industrial Projects had on Tuesday cleared three projects with a proposed investment of Rs 68 crore and employment potential of 1,020.
Regarding subsidies for industrial units in the State, the Minister reiterated that he would not clear any subsidy proposal till the units in question agreed to reserve 80 per cent of jobs for "sons of the soil".
