Jet Airways to wet lease aircraft to Gulf Air

Our Bureau

Mumbai , Aug. 31

JET Airways India Ltd has received approval from the Government to wet lease one of its Airbus 340-300E aircraft to Gulf Air.

The wet lease agreement will run from August 30 to October 24.

According to Mr Saroj K. Datta, Executive Director, Jet Airways, the company will provide Gulf Air the cockpit and cabin crew for the aircraft.

Jet will also be responsible for the maintenance of the aircraft.

Gulf Air will, however, provide the in-flight catering on these flights and operate them as Gulf Air flights.

The A340-300E aircraft, which will be operated in a two-class configuration of 38 business class and 231 economy class seats, will be based in Bahrain, the main hub of Gulf Air's operations, and will be used on the airline's international network.

This aircraft is one of three A340-300E aircraft leased by Jet from South African Airways to commence its long-haul operations.

While Jet kicked off its operations to London in May, the airline's plans to operate to the US have been postponed pending approval from the US Government.

According to Mr Datta, there was no indication yet as to when Jet would receive the go-ahead for its US operations.

Mr Datta refused to reveal the commercial terms of the wet lease agreement, which will help Jet use its spare capacity, while simultaneously enabling Gulf Air meet its short-term capacity requirements.
