TOYOTA Kirloskar Motors Ltd said on Thursday that it is conducting a feasibility study on entering the small cars segment in India.
"We need to have something in the small car segment. We are still in the feasibility stage, but we are working hard to conclude the project," Managing Director, Toyota Kirloskar Motors Ltd, Mr Atsushi Toyoshima, said on the sidelines of the SIAM annual convention.
The company has not yet decided whether the car would be a Toyota brand or one from its Daihatsu affiliate, Mr Toyoshima added.
Toyota is also conducting a study on the expansion of the production capacity at its factory near Bangalore. The factory currently has a capacity to make 60,000 vehicles annually and is running at peak capacity.
Speaking about the company's plans to set up a second factory in India, Mr Toyoshima said the decision to set up a plant would be directly linked to the small car project.
