Tata Motors sales up 20 pc in August

Mumbai , Sept. 1

TATA Motors on Thursday reported a 20.2 per cent growth in total vehicles sold (including export) for August to 36,205 units (30,113 units for the year-ago period).

This included a 24.8 per cent in domestic sales of commercial vehicles to 17,070 units (13,682 units). The Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicles sales accounted for 9,709 units (9,368 units) and that of LCVs 7,361 units (4,314 units), an official statement said. However, the company's passenger vehicles business registered a 0.6 per cent decline in total sales for the month to 13,879 units. Indica sold 8,052 units (8,530 units), Indigo - 3,166 units (3,081 units) and Sumo and Safari - 2,661 units (2,355 units).

Vehicle exports for August were up 113.2 per cent to 5,256 units (2,465 units).

For the financial year so far, cumulative vehicle sales of the company were up 6.8 per cent at 154,871 units. The total sales of commercial vehicles for that period touched 68,258 units (66,774 units) and that of passenger vehicles 68,064 units (70,022 units). Exports for the year so far were up 123.7 per cent at 18,549 units.
