Supply Chain Management AFL's transhipment hub at Nagpur Our Bureau
Mumbai , Sept. 2 AFL Private Ltd has commissioned a transhipment logistics hub at Nagpur. The hub is expected to reduce transit time for shipments and enable AFL provide efficient supply chain solutions across the country. Mr Manoj Chandra, Head - Market Development and Brand Communications, AFL, said, "The transhipment hub at Nagpur would significantly reduce the turn-around-time of shipments. "Companies looking to establish a pan-India distribution reach and consolidate their regional vendor base will benefit from the hub." Mr K.K. Shukla - Deputy General Manager, L&T, inaugurated the hub that is spread over 12,000 sq ft, which includes a 2,000-sq ft strong room to hold high-value shipments. The hub also has truck-touch bays for shipments moving to and from the four geographical regions of the country. It can handle over 200 tonnes of cargo and 35 vehicles daily. Further, it has installed Agrani - an ERP suite to manage Warehouse Management Software and Transport Management Software developed in-house. A dedicated ISDN connection and also leased lines as back-up ensures that AFL offices across the country are connected to the hub for the seamless flow of information. According to an official statement, AFL's move to commission the trans-shipment hub was in line with industry requirements and the Government's initiative to develop Nagpur as a global air cargo hub, making use of its strategic advantage in supply chain management at the geographical centre of India. The Maharashtra Government is also developing a Multi-modal International Hub Airport at Nagpur to cater to the needs of global and domestic cargo movements.
