Hyderabad , Sept. 3

THE Konkan Railway Corporation has signed a memorandum of understanding with a Rs 20,000-crore Malaysian consortium to carry out a feasibility study on the introduction of Skybus in Hyderabad.

Konkan Railway holds the intellectual property rights on the technology that was developed by Mr B. Rajaram, former Managing Director of Konkan Railway Corporation.

The consortium, led by Doxport Technologies, will fund the pilot study from Uppal to Mehdipatnam (the study will take four months.) If the State Government okays the project, it would be a reality in just two years, Mr Rajaram said.

He said Skybus is much safer than the conventional railways and more economical than the metro rail. A 10-km Skybus stretch will cost Rs 55 crore against Rs 120 crore for the metro rail.

Interestingly, the Skybus lane doesn't need any extra land. "The existing structures need not be disturbed at all. There would be no derailments," he said. Each Skybus can carry 300 passengers at a speed of 100 km/ph.
