Training for youth in knit industry courses

G. Gurumurthy

Coimbatore , Sept 4

THE first batch of 70 youths belonging to the other backward classes would be trained in knit industry courses being conducted by the Tirupur-based Apparel Training and Design Centre (ATDC), as part of the recent MoU signed by the ATDC and the National Backward Classes Finance and Development Corporation (NBCFDC).

As per the MoU signed early last month, the NBCFDC would sponsor candidates from the backward community for training in apparel production skills offered at the ATDCs situated across the country.

The ATDCs are sponsored by the Apparel Export Promotion Council with a view to upgrading the technical skills for the personnel employed in the readymade garment sector.

The ATDC in Tirupur is to impart training in production, supervisory and quality control and pattern cutting master courses for the backward classes youths being admitted in the first batch next week. For each course 35 candidates will be taken who will undergo training for six months. The course cost would be met by the NBCFDC.

In function to be held on Tuesday at Tirupur to formally mark the launch of the training programme the Union Minister of State for Social Welfare and Empowerment, Ms Subbulakshmi Jagadeesan, and other top officials of the social welfare ministry including Mr A.A. Naqvi, Managing Director of NBCFDC would take part.

There are 14 ATDCs functioning across the country.
