Bangalore , Sept. 4

PERSISTENT Systems, the Pune-based IT services company, has major expansion plans under way.

Persistent plans to increase its team strength by 40 per cent by the year-end. The current strength is above 2,000, an increase from 841 last year. A new facility for another 2,500 professionals would also be set up in Pune by March, said a company release.

According to the Chairman and Managing Director, Dr Anand Deshpande, "The software product development space is developing rapidly and the market has witnessed remarkable growth in the last several quarters. Our expansion plans have been charted out to meet this growing market demand."

Persistent's expansion plan is fuelled by a 79-per cent increase in its export revenue in FY 2004-05. The primary drivers of growth of Persistent have been telecommunication, life sciences, connectors, data infrastructure, security and compliance, supply chain collaboration and RFID.

Another factor, according to Mr Sangeeta Mahurkar Rao, Associate Vice-President and Head, Human Resources, Persistent Systems, is the company's continuous investment in human capital.
