Outlook Agilent mulling centre in South Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Sept 4 AGILENT Technology International, has charted out expansion drive that would mean doubling its India headcount from 1,000 now to about 2,000 in the near term. Agilent, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Agilent Technology Inc, the $7-billion technology and test and measurement solutions provider, is actively looking at locating one more centre in India in the South while growing beyond its current location based in Gurgaon. The Managing Director of Agilent Technologies International, Mr Venkatesh Valluri, told Business Line that in less than two years of being in India, ATI has grown to about 1,000 people encompassing areas of research and development, software business support for all of Agilent internal systems and high end financial processing services. The Indian teams have developed about 15 innovative disclosures that could possibly mean patents for all the work they have thus far handled. These are in the areas of communication, network management and semiconductor areas. "The Gurgaon centre has emerged as nerve centre for Agilent and as we expand at the existing centre, we are evaluating Southern States to locate another centre. This would be mainly to expand the R&D team and also the global support services teams," Mr Valluri said. Agilent operates out of two divisions in India. While the one headed by Mr Valluri is focussed on R&D and support services, the other relates to the marketing and sales organisation that addresses test and measurement areas. "India represents a strategic growth decision for Agilent. We see scope for further expansion," Mr Valluri said.
