Natural Calamities Info-Tech - Society & Development `IT industry's response to floods poor' Our Bureau
Mangalore , Sept. 4 THE Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister, Mr M.P. Prakash, took a dig at the information technology (IT) industry for its poor response to the recent floods in northern Karnataka, at a function here on Saturday. Inaugurating the third annual conference of Cardiological Society of India, he said that IT industry which complains about lack of infrastructure in Bangalore did not contribute even a rupee for the flood related operations in Karnataka. The recent floods in several districts of north Karnataka affected 29 lakh people and around 130 people were dead. "In spite of earnest request by the State Government, IT industry did not contribute," he said, adding that doctors and lawyers came forward to tackle the flood situation there. Stressing the need to arrest `brain drain' from the country, he said that knowledge, which is power, has become money now. Those who go in for medical education should have a commitment of serving certain years in their country. There should be legal binding for this, he said.
