Bill to provide reservation in promotions soon

Mangalore , Sept. 5

THE Union Government is planning to introduce a Bill in the next session of Parliament for providing reservations in promotions. The Union Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation, Mr Oscar Fernandes, said this at the valedictory of a two-day seminar on `Ambedkar and India's socio economic scenario,' organised by the Centre for B.R. Ambedkar Studies of Mangalore University, here on Monday.

Though the demand for reservations in promotions has been there for the past several years, the authorities concerned have struck it down. "We are bringing in legislation to see that promotions are given by right. It cannot be struck down by any court," he said.

Stressing the need for reservations in private sector, he said it should not be implemented through force. It should be implemented through persuasion.

Though the people managing the private institutions may put their own capital, it should be noted that they also bring in capital from the public sector.
